Thoughts

Saturday, October 15th, 2005

Over the weekend some good friends of ours came down and spent the night with us (which we always welcome!). Somewhere around midnight we got to talking about my blog, and it was mentioned that when my ramblings where read, my thoughts on the people of the hurricane ravaged area were too broad. It was thought that it was unfair to group “everyone” in the same catagory, and that not every single person had a choice, like I had said. I have come back tonite with the initial thought of editing the piece a bit to point out that I do realize not *everyone* has a choice. But…..

Upon reading what I had originally wrote, I have decided that I still stand by every word of it. Why? Because (as I origianlly thought) I do not “overly generalize” nor do I say *every person* had a choice. Instead I refer to the “victims” in general terms. And, I am standing behind what I said. Yes, there are exceptions to the rule - but there always are…

It seems to me that there is an unspoken rule in our society not to bad mouth “victims”. Here’s the thing though, telling the truth as one sees it should not be considered bad mouthing - instead it should be taken at face value. People with pets acted irresponsibly. If they had left their young children behind - everyone would be just as horrified as I am. If you are thinking “but it’s diffrent with *people* - maybe it is to YOU, but it’s not to me.

And please, do not try and tell me “it is diffrent with people no matter what you say” - because it’s not. I put my dogs life over yours. Plain, simple, truthful. Never ask if I would save you in a hurricane instead of her - because the answer is no, I wouldn’t. You are a human, you are capable of making well thought out decisions after considering all of the possible consequences.
